I can remember the feel of a door handle from my grandparents' house better than I can remember most websites.

Materials carry memory because they reach us through more than one sense. Digital products do not have grain or weight, so we have to borrow from motion, sound and timing to give people something to hold on to.

Next time you design a transition, ask what it would feel like if you could touch it.
